Overheard While Waiting to Meet Adam West

Went out to stately Plunkett Manor yesterday for Steve's annual Classic Car Show and to meet Adam ('Bruce Wayne') West and Julie ('Catwoman') Newmar of the 60s 'Batman' TV show. Originally, Burt ('Dick Grayson') Ward was to appear as well but he cancelled a few weeks ago.

TV's Batman and Catwoman were to arrive at 10:00 a.m. via the 'Bat-copter.' But it was more like 10:45 when they actually touched down. They were then driven via the Batmobile over to the front lawn where they would be signing autographs for the rest of the day.

But it was about 11:20 before they were actually sitting down with pens in hand. Me and the youngsters were in the loooonnng line-up when after 40 minutes of signing, it was announced that Adam West would be taking an hour-long lunch break at noon.

This did not go over well with the people who had spent most of the morning just waiting for them to even get there.

One of the loudmouths a few people ahead of us in line got quite miffed and vexed about the unexpected lunch break and she huffed - "Burt Ward would NEVER do something like that!"

Well, of course we all had a good chuckle about that.

I had my '67 F150 pickup truck -- with mag wheels and a fur-lined dashboard -- out there on display.

The real tragedy was the lack of an air show this year. Bastards! That was always a great free show easily viewed from the family homestead. Butch would show up early with his vintage binoculars and jug of "medicine". But, by the time air show started, he was passed out in the corn. Or soybeans if it was an odd year.

As for Stately Plunkett Manor, I am going to go on record (as only a semi-anonymous blogger can) and call his place an architectural fubar akin to the Winchester house.

Dave - I do know the way to San Jose - so I've been to the Winchester House and stately Plunkett Manor pales in comparison. No hidden staircases or seance rooms.

However, Butch's fave haunted artist, Tom Straub was there at the car show this weekend with copies of his haunted paintings and one of them was a creepy view of stately Plunkett Manor.

BTW - Butch has a nice crop of hemp coming in this year. Finally got out of the tobacco biz.

I will bow to your more sober assessment of the architectural merits of stately Plunkett Manor. Let's call it what it really is; local jealousy on my part. Newcomers. Harrumph!

Glad to hear that the ol' bag 'a dirt is diversifying his crop. Though I do worry that the Dutch Mafia in Brydges might not let such a trusted lieutenant go without a bit of a fight.
